CALL FOR PAPERS — APPEL A COMMUNICATIONS

THE UNIVERSITY OF MARY WASHINGTON, FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA is located an hour south of Washington, D.C. Papers in any area of Sartrean scholarship are welcome (philosophy, literature, psychology, politics, literature). Reading time for a paper should be 25-30 minutes (to be followed by the respondent’s commentary (optional) and 10 minutes of discussion). In addition to individual papers, we would be most interested in receiving suggestions for panel topics. Panel topics that deal with any aspect of Sartre’s work; its relationship to other authors as well as those that deal with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir (we are celebrating the centenary of her birth in 2008) will be seriously considered. Graduate students are encouraged to submit papers. A number of stipends will be available to help defray the cost of travel and lodging.

Nous vous invitons à nous soumettre des propositions de communication d’une durée de 25 -30 minutes (suivie d’un commentaire par un répondant (facultatif) et de 10 minutes de discussion) ayant trait à tout aspect de l’oeuvre de Sartre (la philosophie, la psychologie, la politique, la littérature, etc). Sont aussi la bienvenue des suggestions pour des tables rondes sur tout aspect de l’oeuvre de Sartre ainsi que sur des thèmes tels que: ses rapports avec l’oeuvre d’autres auteurs et surtout sur ces rapports avec Simone de Beauvoir (2008 est le centenaire de sa naissance). Nous apprécierons aussi des soumissions d’étudiants des cycles supérieurs. Quelques bourses leur seront réservées pour défrayer les frais de déplacement et de logement. N.B. En général une ou deux sessions sont réservées à des communications en français.

Fredericksburg is a historic little city, situated on the Rappahannock River, with a thriving arts community, and lots of antique stores. It is the boyhood home town of George Washington, and was a major site of Civil War battles, located halfway between Washington D.C. and Richmond. Thomas Jefferson wrote the draft of the Virginia Statute on Freedom of Religion in Fredericksburg; this became the First Amendment to the US Constitution. The university is named after Washington’s mother, and is a state-supported liberal arts college of about 4000 students. Local hotel accommodations will run $60/night for Best Western. La ville historique de Fredericksburg est située sur la rivière Rappahannock; elle est située à mi-chemin entre Washington et Richmond et possède un quartier artistique florissant et des magasins d’antiquités.
